The Gift of the Ordinary

Image
The greatest joys are in the small ordinary moments of our lives. It’s watching someone we love sleep, a cup of tea on a cold day, a thick mat when you step out of the shower. I’m finding that it takes courage to live in the fullness of these moments these days. Not because they don’t exist, but because we are bombarded with messages that tell us who we are and what we have is not enough. We are told in a hundred different ways that we don’t measure up, that the world is not safe, and something bad is just around the corner. It’s fear at its most insidious best. And I get it.  I get that we’re afraid, and I understand why. I’m not living under a rock. When I did my 90 Day No Negativity Challenge I learned one thing for sure, it’s either fear or love, baby. Fear is a soul sucking joy stealer that brings out the worst in people. We destroy our bodies and relationships, get into debt up to our eyeballs, and we test our poor children to death.  We finger poi...

It's Either Fear or Love, Baby

Image
Are my efforts motivated by love or are they motivated by fear? I had one or two opportunities to ask myself that question this week. And by one or two I mean three or four…or five.    The question itself was all it took to bring me back to center, that calm lovely state of love that is becoming more familiar with each passing day.   I like it.   I like it a whole lot more than fear. Negativity is not normal.  It’s either fear or love, baby, and it's your choice.       An interesting thing happens when I am in the state of love.   I do less and accomplish more. I am inspired, and know the exactly the right thing to do.   Whatever I need to accomplish is better, more productive, and more fun.     Deepak Chopra   refers to the “The Law of Least Effort.”        ...

I Need An Attitude Adjustment

Image
I need an attitude adjustment. It’s either that or run away from home and what’s the point of that? Where ever I go I take me with me and today that includes my rather snarky attitude.  The answer is not running away, the answer is in me. Go Figure.     School has started. Yes, I know, it’s only August and it’s hotter than forty hells here in Georgia but school has started. 15 hour days are the norm and let’s not even talk about how much money I’ve spent on my classroom already. My washusband used to say that they should stash all the teachers in a hotel for the first and last month of school because we were crazy.  When school starts teachers go from 0 to a 100 mph trying to get ready for our students. It’s not a pretty picture.  Last night around 11:00 p.m. it caught with me. I let myself get away from me. The minute I noticed that I was not me, peaceful and at ease, I called time out.     I made a cuppa tea and while ...
